To this week's ride leaders:

Thank you for volunteering to lead a ride. As you prepare for your ride, please take a moment to review the following items:

  1. Check the listing for your ride, both on the web and on the printed “refrigerator” schedule. If there are any errors or changes, notify the Rides Committee (rides@chicagocyclingclub.org) and contact Art Gilfand (art@biketraffic.org/ 773-871-1872) immediately so he can update the Ride Line.

  2. Attached to this email are two files:

    RideLeaderKit.pdf
The basic Ride Leader Kit. Use this file to print out the following items:
(These are also available as separate files at http://chicagocyclingclub.org/rides/leads.asp )

*** PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY OTHER VERSIONS OF THESE DOCUMENTS ***

If you have problems opening this document, make sure you have a recent version of Adobe Reader (formerly Acrobat Reader) installed. You can download the latest version for free from this link: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

    Express Check-In.doc
Express Check-In Sheet. This file should load into most word-processing software, so you can print it out. Current members with emergency contact info on file, can sign-in quickly by initialing next to their name on the sheet. If someone has been a a club member for more than a month and is not listed on this sheet, we don't have their emergency contact information on file and they must sign in using the usual waiver form.
Members can send emergency contact info to membership@chicagocyclingclub.org to be included on the Express Sign-In Sheet.

  3. Print out at least 20 copies of your cue-sheet.

  4. Before the day of the ride, try to recruit a sweep and someone to help meet & greet participants.

  5. The club now owns a pair of two-way radios. These allow the lead to stay in touch with the sweep. Art Gilfand is the keeper of the radios.
Please contact Art a few days before your ride, if you want to use the radios. (art@biketraffic.org/ 773-871-1872)
Art lives near the clock tower (3900 N. Lake Shore Dr.) and can leave the radios with the doorman in his building.

  6. Arrive at the designated starting place for your ride, at least 20 minutes early.

  7. Have a sweep identified at the start of the ride.

  8. Make sure every participant signs the waiver form.

  9. Before you start, read the “Rules of the Road”.

  10. After your ride, send a quick email to the Rides Committee (rides@chicagocyclingclub.org) and let us know how the ride went and how many people came along.

  11. Return the radios to Art immediately after the ride. Return instructions are enclosed with the radios.

  12. Send a copy of your cue-sheet to cuesheets@ChicagoCyclingClub.org so it can be included in the on-line route library.

  13. Mail the signed Waiver Forms to: Chicago Cycling Club, ATTN: Treasurer, P.O. Box 1178, Chicago, IL 60690

  14. Have Fun!

Once again, thank you for volunteering to be a ride leader!

If you have any questions, you can reply to this email or contact Corina Schusheim at cschusheim@yahoo.com.

Sincerely,
Chicago Cycling Club Rides Committee
