Touring Ride: Ride for Firecrackers - 4th of July Weekend in Wisconsin

Take your cycling skills and performance to a higher level. Join us for a fast-paced training ride aimed at increasing your speed and improving your group riding skills. Practice rotating pace lines, close proximity riding and advanced bike handling while building fitness at a riding pace in excess of 18 m.p.h. Due to the need to ride in a tight pack, the fast pace and training specific nature of this ride, use of traditional style road bikes is strongly recommended. Recumbent, hybrid and mountain bikes are discouraged. A certain level of experience and fitness is expected. The actual pace of the ride will be determined by the ride participants.

Join us on a picnic at the lakefront & watch the Wednesday fireworks later. We will leave from 31st Beach House and go to a local market Northbound to buy picnic food. Ride will then proceed to lakefront for picnic. After picnic riders can watch the fireworks at 9:30PM. Riders should have lights and carrying room on bike for their food. Markets we visit will have fresh food and/or prepared items. Riders can also bring food from home.

Only Joe knows!) in accordance with the Chicago Cycling Club's unofficial motto of "we ride to eat." The distance will be 35 miles at an intermediate pace. Social Ride: 3rd Annual South Lakefront and Boulevard Architectural Tour

REMOTE START: Start at Queen's Landing - east of Buckingham Fountain and Lake Shore Drive

This is the third year for this bike trip with an architectural theme. We'll check out a few different areas than we have in the past. The residential architecture on the near south side has a remarkable history and future. We'll take a look at the past (Frank Lloyd Wright), the present (redevelopment along Drexel and Cottage Grove) and the future (Lake Meadows Redevelopment.) We'll start at the "Queen's Landing" which is the plaza on the lakefront bike path immediately east of Buckingham Fountain and Lake Shore Drive, head inland and turn around at Jackson Park. The 28-mile round trip will include: the Prairie Avenue Historic District, Bronzeville, whatever is left of Michael Reese Hospital, Lake Meadows, the Civil War site of Camp Douglas, Groveland Park, Stephen Douglas's tomb (and rest stop), the last Chicago building associated with the Civil War, nine structures designed or remodeled by Frank Lloyd Wright including the Robie (1906) and Blossom Houses (1892), homes of prominent Kenwood residents (Barack Obama's house from afar), the University of Chicago, Mt. Carmel High School, the site of the World's Fair and the Midway, Washington Park, and a trip down the Boulevards. Rest stops but no lunch stop, a quick spiel at each point of interest, and as many bike lanes as we can hit. Back by about 1PM. Touring Ride: Conway Farms with a Glen

START: Clock Tower at Waveland and Lake Shore Dr. (3700N)

Come along on the Conway Farms Ride on Sunday. Going up to Conway, we'll pass through the secret passage from Golf to Glenview and the Glen. The Glen is the new development on the land formerly known as the Glenview Naval Air Station. Of course, we'll stop in the Glen for coffee and other fine beverages, at the Old School Forest Preserve, then ride through the Conway Farms residential development and return to Chicago via Fort Sheridan and the usual Sheridan Road route with a stop in downtown Highland Park for a light lunch, if desired and of course coffee, the fuel of life. If you look carefully, you might even find a farm along the ride. Please note that there will be a few stretches with a bit of traffic.

Touring Ride: Waterford Factory Tour and Touring Ride

Richard Schwinn, in conjunction with Waterford Precision Cycles, has sponsored and mapped 3 group rides through the beautiful rolling countryside around Waterford, WI. This will be a joint ride with the Kenosha-Racine, Evanston, and other Chicagoland area bike clubs. There will be a slow/moderate (12-14 mph) ride of 25-30 miles that is mostly flat and faster (14-16 mph) 45 mile and metric century rides. The rides will be self-paced (queue sheets provided) with sag support. There will be an opportunity to ride in a group with riders from other clubs and improve pacelining skills. The rides will start from the Waterford Factory at 9:00 so allow some time to unload and setup. Richard Schwinn will give tours of the factory between 8:00 and 8:30. This is a great opportunity to see how top quality bicycles are built. Touring Ride: Summer Beer Run to Three Floyds

START: Clock Tower at Waveland and Lake Shore Dr. (3700N)

Note: this ride has been re-scheduled to August 21st. There's been a ride to the Three Floyds brew pub (http://www.threefloydspub.com) in Munster, IN, every January since 2006, and the beer is great ("there are few places more exciting from a beer lover's perspective", says the NY Times, http://travel.nytimes.com/2009/06/28/travel/28journeys.html), and the food, too, but January weather, ugh! We'll leave the clock tower at 10, pick up South Siders at the 31st Street beach house at 10:45, take a short break at Wolf Lake, have lunch at Three Floyds, and return. Those who are interested may want to stay for the brewery tour at 3. Going, we'll take the Daniel Burnham Centennial Century route (http://burnhamplan100.uchicago.edu/events/id/956), coming back, the traditional winter route (http://bigempire.com/mark/beer_run/beer_run_map.pdf). This will be a "tour" ride with few stops. We won't necessarily stay together. Faster riders may go ahead, and slower riders may drop back. It's probably better if we all don't all arrive and try to order at the same time, anyway. Bring money, a lock, snacks to have en route, and panniers for beer you can't get in Chicago. Anyone interested is more than welcome to meet us at the brew pub even if they don't care to participate in the bike ride. The inaugural Three Floyds ride, on January 14, 2006, was conceived and organized by Mark Sinclair. Social Ride: North to Northfield

REMOTE START: Davis stop on the purple line, Evanston

Ride north through the quiet communities of Evanston and Wilmette to Northfield. This tiny little village is home to one of the best bakeries around. We’ll stop for a light lunch at Three Tarts Bakery (other options available) and return to Evanston. Along the way you’ll see those places on the North Branch trail that make you ask, “Where am I?”. Now you’ll know! We will meet at the Davis El station on the Purple Line. We’ll gather between the Metra and CTA stations.
