Enjoy a 3-day Labor Day weekend up near Madison. We will ride approximately 60 miles on Saturday, join the Wright Stuff Century on Sunday, and do a short recovery ride on Monday. Curious to find out what training rides are all about - but aren't sure if you can ride at 25 mph? Here's your chance. This ride has the look and feel of a training ride, but at a slower pace. Emphasis will be placed on smooth riding techniques and paceline etiquette.

Touring Ride: fRedhots and Fries - Touring Version

So, you thought Superdawg was good? How pedestrian! Let Alice introduce you to a dog for a more refined palate. Smoked Salmon, Buffalo, Chicken or good ol’ beef dogs are served up with a generous side of Belgian Frites and gourmet dipping sauces by a guy named Fred. Veggie options are also available. Our route will lead through Sauganash, Niles, Wilmette and Glenview. Be advised that some roads will have heavy traffic and we’ll be moving at a fairly brisk pace.

Start location is very near Jeferson Park bus terminal and stop for the Blue Line.

Touring Ride: Return to Oak Brook-Fullersberg Nature Preserve-Graue Mill

START: Clock Tower at Waveland and Lake Shore Dr. (3700N)

55 miles, 16 to 18 mph

Let's ride westward on the Salt Creek Bike Path and go to Graue Mill and its adjacent Fullersberg Nature Preserve. Why? Because leaf color change should be in full swing, the ride route is 100% paved, and Spring Hill Road is such a nice road to climb. Other featured suburbs include North Riverside, Riverside, and Berwyn. Same three rest stops as the last edition - the Nature Preserve at about the midpoint and two Oak Park location stops for coffee en route and dairy/cafe/bread/meat en return.

I&M Canal Ride - Morris to Starved Rock

REMOTE START: Downtown Morris, contact the ride leader for the start location

TBD miles, 12 to 16 mph

In year's past, this ride has gone from Joliet to Morris. This year, a new twist, we'll start in Morris (at the river - where the path branches off into downtown just beyond the city park) and ride to Starved Rock and returning to the start in Morris. Mileage and timing will be updated at a later date. It is highly recommended that you bring a hybrid or a mountain bike - the path is crushed limestone over dirt, so skinny tire road bikes won't have their normal rolling resistance advantage. While we will ride together as a group, it is also expected that the riders will be able to maintain a certain pace - beginning riders who have not logged a lot of miles may not be able to keep pace. Check back closer to the ride date for finalized start time and location.

Touring Ride: Return to Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve

START: Clock Tower at Waveland and Lake Shore Dr. (3700N)

70 miles, 16 to 18 mph

Could be raining, could be snowing, could be Indian Summer, or could be just plain Fall. Come out on a 70+ mile tour heading west and southwest through the 'burbs of Oak Park, Brookfield, Western Springs, Indian Head Park, Burr Ridge and its wonderful hills, Brookfield and Riverside. Will also pass the aforementioned forest preserve and Argonne National Laboratory as we look to see if the DuPage County trees still have foliage. Rest stops will be at some convenience store near the mid-point and the usual Oak Park stops of the Lake Theatre Starbuck's for caffeine en route and Tasty Dog for grilled encased meats en return.
